Brian Nesvik: The Wrong Choice to Lead U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

(CLICK TO TAKE ACTION)

The future of America’s wildlife is at risk. Brian Nesvik, a staunch advocate for aggressive predator control, has been nominated to lead the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)—the very agency responsible for protecting endangered species like the Gray Wolf. Nesvik is the same man who charged Cody Roberts, amateur hunter of Daniel, Wyoming, with a $250 fine for the torture and slaughter of a yearling wolf pup.

If confirmed, Nesvik will have the power to make critical decisions about wildlife conservation nationwide. But his track record in Wyoming shows he prioritizes hunting interests and state-led predator eradication over science-based conservation.

As director of Wyoming’s Game and Fish Department, Nesvik oversaw some of the most extreme anti-wildlife policies in the country. Under his leadership:

  • Wolf killing policies escalated, allowing Wyoming to classify wolves as vermin in most of the state, enabling them to be shot on sight with no limits.

  • Grizzly bear protections were weakened, pushing for delisting and increased hunting of these threatened animals.

  • Trophy hunting interests were prioritized over the ecological health of predator populations, disregarding the vital role of wolves and grizzlies in maintaining balance in the ecosystem.

Now, Nesvik is poised to take control of the very agency meant to protect wildlife. If he is confirmed, we can expect more rollbacks of protections for wolves, grizzlies, and other imperiled species.

We cannot let that happen.
