Montana Legislators Find New Ways to Kill Wolves

MONTANA MOVES TO DEREGULATE WOLF KILLING HB554 just passed in the Montana House with a vote of 53-44, paving the way to strip all regulations on wolf killing by removing the classification of wolves as either furbearers or game species. This change opens the door to treating wolves as mere predators, which would mean no limits, no protections, and no oversight. Representatives on both sides of the aisle have weighed in on the issue. Rep. Isaly (D) from HD58 in Bozeman pointed out that these wolf-killing bills cater to less than 1% of Montana’s population who want to trap and kill wolves. The reality is that this is not about effective wildlife management—it is about facilitating the extermination of wolves. The next stop is the Senate, where HB554 is set to be reviewed by the Senate F&G committee. If it passes there, the situation for Montana’s wolves will become even more precarious. Now more than ever, it is critical to take action. We urge our supporters to contact Montana legislators and demand that they reject HB554. Your voice can make a difference in protecting Montana’s wolf population.

Subject: Protect Montana’s Wolves – Amend HB258

Dear Representative Fielder, I urge you to reconsider HB258 and the devastating impact it will have on Montana’s wolves. This bill not only threatens a keystone species but also risks harming Montana’s tourism industry, which thrives on its natural beauty and wildlife. Please consider a world where compassion and coexistence guide our policies. Wolves are essential to our nation’s ecosystems and are a symbol of wildlife and wildness. We can find solutions that allow both people and wolves to thrive. I ask you to stop this unnecessary slaughter and work toward a future where Montana is known for its harmony with nature, not its destruction of it. Sincerely,
